Peter De Lorenzo covers the American auto industry, which he has dubbed a “seething cauldron of brilliance punctuated by flat-out incompetence.” His regular reports are non-partisan, car-centric, and adamantly pro-American. Whether demystifying the buzz surrounding Tesla, or delivering the high-octane truth about Ford’s success, De Lorenzo blends industry insight and powerful prose on his widely-read and influential blog, Autoextremist.com.
In Witch Hunt, De Lorenzo follows Detroit through the auto industry’s most volatile period of time. As Toyota stumbles, and GM and Chrysler are gutted by agenda-besotted politicians and wrong-headed management, De Lorenzo blisters paint with his prose as his love of good cars and the True Believers who build them alternates with his contempt for those who stand in the way of good product and sensible business practices. Witch Hunt is more than just a compelling analysis of a dysfunctional industry; it’s a call to action demanding that the blithering idiots in Detroit, Washington and beyond step aside and let the pride in our country’s automotive industry be restored.

Quite the read, this one, if taken with a small grain of salt. Mr. De Lorenzo and I agree on America's auto industry's quality and desirability slide from the 1970s to the present. His cynical assessments are flung against governments, politicians, unions, and accountants running companies instead of "true-believer" car guys. True, many, if not all, of these essays are available on autoextremist.com, but I found a good price on the book that made having a permanent copy of them a good option. Mr. DeLorenzo is not bashful in criticizing the things and people he targets, nor is he reserved in complimenting the things and people he sees as being of benefit to the industry. The period of time covered in these essays falls between the 2008 national economic downturn and before the GM ignition switch problems and Mary Barra's selection to try running GM. It is an interesting look at an industry that has suffered numerous embarrassments, lost quite the number of iconic brands, and seen one of it's "big three" change numerous owners since it's 1960s heyday.Product details

Witch Hunt eBook Peter M De Lorenzo Janice J Putman Reviews
The book seems to be reprints of a bunch of columns by an angry auto blogger. Possibly, they would have been interesting at the time they were posted -- because they were commenting on the US automakers' meltdown in real time -- but they are dated now. The anger in the commentaries is so unbalanced that it overwhelms his rare cogent arguments.
Let's not even get into questions of accuracy, except to say that the author demonstrates a lack of understanding of the principles of economics, management, and government policy.
Interesting, but somewhat repetitive theme. Web site is easier to take on a weekly basis.
Ordered this book based on the author's on-line weekly automotive industry insider newsletter; very pleased with the publication.
As a regular reader of Autoextremist and viewer of Autoline, I felt compelled to get this book.
As I read this book,I could almost hear Peter's voice. It is a quick read and a useful reminder of just how right Peter has been in his predictions for the future of the auto industry. The highlight for me was chapter 34. The April Fool's launch of Fu-King Motors was inspired.
My only criticism is some of it can be a little repetitive but this is caused in a large part by repeated blunders by the various players. A good, fun read.
